Jeff Tenney - Permament Sub

Player Profile:
Jeff will again be counted on as a full-time player in 2010 after his stellar 2009 campaign. Jeff was easily one of the top two players in the league last season and in any other year, he runs away with league MVP honors.

Jeff hit .606 with 10 doubles and 15 homeruns - to lead the league - in 2009. He drove home 49 runs in just 18 games. He had an OPS over 2.000 and hit a homerun ever 4.73 at bats. His offensive prowess will be impressive to watch again this season.

Defensively, Jeff is top-notch all over. His canon of an arm is second-to-none and he can play shortstop or third base with ease. He possesses great range for a man of his size (6'6") and whatever he touchs he fields and fires.

If roaming the outfield, he likes to goad runners into taking an extra base and then hoses them by 25 feet. Just for fun.

Jeff will be a mainstay in the middle of the lineup and will lead the league in dented balls. Oh, and Jeff refuses to use the best bats because that just wouldn't be fair.

Personal Notes:
Jeff is a Minnetonka boy who has played some college ball. His 3/4 low 90's heat from his 6'6" frame certainly scared a few right-handed hitters. Jeff lives in Minnetonka and gives baseball lessons in his spare time, when he's not scaring the daylights out of opposing pitchers in softball. Jeff naturally swings left-handed but bats righty to make it safer for his opponents.

Adam Hey

Player Profile:
I don't know what to expect from Mr. Hey in 2010 because he has bulked up like He-Man this year and has been bombing homeruns in every batting practice. I do expect to see the same smile and hop in his step each week as he runs out on the diamond for the Warriors.

Adam is in his third career year of softball and has shown dramatic improvement over that time span. Frankly, in his first season he struggled to make solid contact. Last season he was a legitimate contributor and raised his average nearly 200 points. This season, he will hit over .500 and will have 10 extra base-hits. Mark it down.

Defensively, Adam fielded and caught nearly everything hit his way last year. He should be a solid-average outfielder and the best darn chatter-catcher in the league. Adam is a great asset to the team and may be making a run at an all-league honor in 2010.

Personal Notes:
Adam is an engineer by trade with four children, three boys and a girl. He works at Lockheed Martin and designs software that make very interesting machines operate. He once created a softball that when hit just right, opened a gate in Calcutta that allowed a herd of cows to stampede through a town that created a distraction for a Navy SEALS team to gain entry to a locked-down fortress. Plus, the ball looked cool.

Aaron Beintema

Player Profile:
Aaron follows his father to the Warrior squad this season. This gives the team two related combinations as the Beintemas join the Johnsons on the family roster.

Aaron has some history of softball activity but has been out of the game for a while. There have been limited reports on his playing abilities and what can be expected, but Aaron has high hopes for a successful season.

In practice he has shown a natural feel for the game both at the plate and in the field. The rust is there but once it shakes off, Aaron should be a solid league player. If his bat gets going, he may make a run at all-league honors.

Aaron will be the utility infielder, filling in at third and second when needed, otherwise he will maintain one of the outfield spots. He should be able to handle whatever is thrown at him this year.

Look for Aaron to make a run at Surprise Player of the Year with a strong showing at the plate in 2010.

Personal Notes:
Aaron has two children, Erin and Devan.

Ryan Norman

Player Profile:
Ryan will be making his Warrior roster debut in 2010 after helping out in last year's Bloomington AG tournament. Ryan hit a cool .600 in his first exposure to slow-pitch softball in the tournament and should be a big help the team this year.

Ryan is a baseball player by trade, playing four years of upper-level college ball between division I and division II. He hit over .300 in all four seasons and flashed some left-side power with speed on the bases. While an outfielder in baseball, he can and will be playing some shortstop on the softball team.

Ryan was named the state MVP at the Iowa American Legion baseball tournament his junior year in high school after hitting two homeruns in the state title game, leading his team to back-to-back state championships.

Once he gets used to the softball timing and swing, he should become a force in the batter's box, providing a left-hand presence to a righty-dominated lineup. His versatility in the field will be a big bonus also.

Personal Notes:
Ryan works for US Bank in the Twin Cities and recently bought a condo in St. Louis Park. He is still passionate about baseball and doesn't understand why Nick Punto gets $2 million each year to hit .220 when he thinks he could hit .245 and would play for only $1.5 million. Hard to argue with that logic.

John Beintema

Player Profile:
John joins the Resurrection Life softball team after years of pleading from Manager Colby. John finally caved in for the 2010 season and the Warriors are thankful.

John hasn't been on the diamond much in recent years past but he has a natural ability for the game and should fit right in. Being his first year with the team, there will be a few weeks of 'getting-to-know-you' activity on the field before both John and Squad know what they're getting.

In the meantime, John will be looked to for a steady veteran presence in the lineup and in the dugout. Plus, he has shown that he has a soft set of hands and a good eye at the plate. Even with his limited experience, I expect John to reach base at a healthy clip and play several positions without too much trouble.

Great to have John with us this year. Good guy and he's already donated a non broken bucket that Manager Colby can use for his softballs.

Personal Notes:
John has been married to Nola for nearly 38 years and has two kids, Aaron (teammate on the Warriors) and Hannah. John also has two grandchildren, Erin and Devan, that he loves to spoil. John and Nola attend Resurrection Life where Nola is an administrator and John is the King of Helpers. John is quite the swimmer and after completing his collegiate swim career, he twice swam from Madagascar to Australia just because he could.

Tim Jandro

Player Profile:
Tim joins the team as the final full-time roster member for 2010. Tim is a long-time softball player with many many at bats and plate appearances under his belt. He, Jeff Tenney, Eric Johnson and Austin Colby have played lots of ball together over the years.

He has seen some success over the years, both with his teams and his individual accomplishments. Tim can play any of the three infield positions and can handle himself well in the grass too.

Offensively, Tim has improved steadily over the course of his career and now is a formidable stick. He generally makes excellent contact and has some solid pop in his bat. He should be a nice addition to the lineup, hitting near the top of the order and playing good defense.

Welcome to the squad Tim.

Personal Notes:
Tim is married to Judy and they have one child, baby girl Ellie. While Tim's athletic passions are wide and varied, he is a former Tonka golf star who played in college. Current teammate Eric Johnson has challenged Tim to a four-round Masters-like playoff for the 2010 season and this oddsmaker is laying 7:1 against Eric.

Austin Colby: Manager

Player Profile:
Austin comes back for his 8th season on the Warrior softball team after back-to-back league MVP seasons.

Austin has seen his production hold steady over '08 and '09 and he is giving a lot of that credit to the famous 'old-man strength.' While predicting another .760 average season with 2.300+ OPS would be foolish, Austin is hoping to maintain consistency and keep a solid charge in the lineup all year.

Austin has been battling some lingering knee issues dating back to 1999, but he adapts well to his situations and should overcome any potential hindrance. While this beat writer doesn't expect another 10 triple season, I won't be surprised if it does happen.

Last season Austin mashed 40 extra base-hits in 92 at bats, falling just short of his 2003 and 2004 extra base-hit per at bat numbers. His favorite stat from 2009 was his first career triple-double in softball: he finished with 10+ doubles, 10+ triples, and 10+ homeruns. That is something he'd been hoping to do for years.

Austin will most likely handle pitching duties and shortstop when able this season. He is ever positive and is looking forward to a great year with his squad.
'It's been a long off season,' said Manager Colby. 'But, the season is finally here and I can't wait to run around and get to know some of the new players better. It's always a good time.'

Personal Notes:
Austin has been married to Jennifer for four years and they have been blessed with two healthy, strapping boys, Luke (3) and Jake (2) and one beautiful baby girl, Kate (1). Austin is a Certified Financial Planner and part-owner for a Raymond James financial services office located in Eden Prairie. He has attended Resurrection Life Church since April of 2003 when he gave his life to the Lord.

Logan Brincefield

Player Profile:
Logan enters as a last-minute addition to the Warrior roster. After losing a roster player to a thumb injury, Rez needed to find another regular and Logan answered the call.

Logan is a seasoned softball player with several at bats under his belt. In early season action as a substitute, he flashed a solid glove in left field and hit the ball on the nose a couple of times.

Rez will be using him in a variety of ways around the field, but hope to find a permanent home for him soon so he can settle in and get comfortable.

Offensively, he scampers quickly down the line and is all hustle all the time. Manager Colby had this to say about the newcomer.
'Logan showed some skills out there,' said Colby. 'He hustled down the line and kept his cool in a high-pressure situation and game. He won't make it easy on opposing infielders and I feel fortunate that we were able to lock him in for the season.

Welcome to the squad Logan.

Personal Notes:
Logan is married to Brooke and they recently had a baby girl, Jocelyn. Big sister Trissa (3) welcomed the baby home with open arms. The Brincefields live in Waconia and attend Trinity Lutheran church. Logan will be filling in as the Team Chiropractor in 2010. He and his twin brother are opening their chiropractic clinic in Norwood Young America this July. If you have any problems, he's got your back....get it? Your back?? He's a chiro. So, if you know anyone with a spine, Dr. Logan is someone they need to talk to.

Eric Johnson: VP of Decision Making

Player Profile:
With slightly looser pants this season, Eric plans on making quite a splash for the Warriors in 2010. He may extend a few of his doubles into triples and he might stretch a few singles into doubles. His added step out of the box may even snare him an infield single or two.

Regardless of all that, Eric will be on a mission this year to reclaim his ranks as a top-notch 1st team all-league slugger. While Eric has been earning post-season honors consistently over the past seven seasons, his production has gone through some dips. This year, he plans on ending all doubts.

Eric can swat over .600 with 10+ doubles and 10+ dingers if healthy. Plus, he has richly earned his mantra of Mr. Clutch and I fully expect that to continue. He hits a lot with guys on base which could lead to a monster RBI season.

Eric has improved his hands at second base each of the last two seasons and even snagged a few gold glove votes. If his footwork is improved he should again be the pivot man on a dozen or so double-plays while doing a solid job on grounders.

Eric is this writer's pre-season pick for Surprise Player of the Year. He will make waves in 2010.

Personal Notes:
Eric was married in December of 2006 to Kelli. They have one bouncing baby boy, Mathias (2). The Johnsons are expecting a baby girl this fall and the name is rumored to be Austina. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. Eric declined a chance to be the VP of Decision Making for his employer, United HealthGroup, and instead chose to take that same roll for this softball squad. Smart choice. He has worked for UHG since 2003 and is a Director in the Finance department. I don't know what that means and don't ask him either because he isn't sure.

Jeff Johnson: Team Captain

Player Profile:
Jeff enters his fourth season as Team Captain as a Warrior. He was one of the pioneers of the resurrection of the church softball team at the beginning part of this decade.

Although Jeff is coming off of shoulder surgery this season, he is still expected to have a huge impact at the plate. Last season was frustrating for Jeff as he walloped 18 homeruns. However, 8 of those were for outs. He just couldn't harness his power and the timing of his homeruns were never quite right. This year, with a recovering shoulder and a mighty new Super Freak in his hands, look for Jeffrey to seriously scare a half-dozen infielders and mash 15 legit homeruns.

Because of that shoulder surgery, Jeff will again be religated to first base or catcher duty initially. Hopefully, as the season progresses and the shoulder gets stronger, he'll be able to move around to the outfield a little bit.

Jeff has hit 19 homeruns in the last three years and with some fortunate timing, he may reach that number this season.

Personal Notes:
Jeff has been married to Sarah for 8 years and they have three children: Bailey, 10, Tyler, 7, and Jacob, 5. Jeff is an avid outdoorsman and oftentimes you'll see him rubbing two bats together to try and start a fire in the on-deck circle. He hunts and fishes frequently and based on his homerun shows in batting practice, he enjoys strength training five times a week. He and his family are members of Resurrection Life Church in Eden Prairie where his children win the Grand Prix race car contest every year in kids' church. Oddly enough, their grandfather is one of the judges....hmmmm.

Bryan Christensen

Player Profile:
Hello Bryan Christensen. Welcome to the team. Bryan has been sniffing around the Warriors squad for a couple years, itching to get on the field. Well, 2010 is his year.

Bryan has been a loyal fan, attending many team games with the Warrior Godfather, Ron Loven. Bryan hasn't been able to play much softball over the past few years but should jump back in and be a help to the team.

Thus far, Bryan has showed a great attitude and willingness to improve his game leading up to his debut. Scheduling conflicts may push Bryan's first official at bat back a few weeks, but it will be a blast to see him out there when that time comes.

Bryan is still working out the kinks in his defensive game but when he's ready he should be able to do a little work at second base, first base, catcher and maybe even some outfield.

His offensive game will only improve as the year progresses. He makes solid contact in practice and generally gets the fat part of the bat on the ball. As long as he can maintain that consistency, he should be a solid help.

Personal Notes:
Bryan attends Resurrection Life Church and helps out in the children's ministry. Currently, he is back in school working towards his degree after an extended period of time in the military. Bryan loves dogs and once successfuly showed a basset hound at the Westchester Dog Show, finishing first in the bloodhound division and third overall. Nicely done Bryan.

Lee Valle

Player Profile:
Lee rejoins the team after taking a year off to try out for the Nippon Dragons. While the Dragon management team loved his work ethic and glove work, they did not think that Lee's limited Japanese vocabularly would serve the team well enough and he was not signed. Japan's loss is theResurrection Life Warriors gain.

Lee's last season was a 2nd team all-league performance in 2008. That year he ran away with the leauge-wide gold glove honors. He was a joy to watch and even though he finally hit age 40ish this year. I still anticipate another stellar season at the hot corner. To rest his 40ish-year old legs. Lee will see some time at first base and maybe even outfield.

If there is an aspect to Lee's game that will have suffered from a one-year absence, it will be his bat. Look for that to heat up steadily as the year goes on and for Lee to be solid as a rock come tournament time. I expect another all-league performance with a .500 batting average.

Personal Notes:
Lee has been married to Karen since 1976...well before I was even born. Way to go Lee!!! The couple has produced two boys, Nathan and Jared. Both Lee and Karen are very involved at Resurrection Life Church. Lee is an associate pastor who is famous in the tri-state area for his 10-key chords on the keyboard. Impressive as that sounds, it is even more impressive when you realize he is doing it with his eyes closed while bouncing on his tippy-toes. Well played Lee, well played. Literally.
